Introduction

Back in July 2004, five of the then employees of Oldfield Design entered a Fantasy Football competition that ran in one of the National newspapers.  Whilst this encouraged significant barracking and bragging within our office, and presented one of the five of us (well, it was me actually) the pleasure of claiming to have the best knowledge of football within our office for several months afterwards, none of us ever really stood a chance of gaining a return on our entry money offered by the paper.  Joe Oldfield's team peaked at position 6,304 in the entire league during the season and my team ended the season in the low 21,000s!!

During the close-season in the summer of 2005 we got to thinking that it was a waste of time entering a national competition offering high value prizes, but very low chances of winning, when we could run our own competition ensuring that at least one of us would definately win.  And so our annual Fantasy Football competition was born.  Starting in August 2005 with six managers, each managing two teams, creating a 12-team league the first competition got under way.

Since then the competition has taken on different formats from time to time but has been running, every year now, since 2005 and support has grown and grown each year.  In the 2009-10 season the league had 43 teams entered and we paid out almost £250 in prize money.  We also introduced a knock-out cup competition to run alongside the league, giving entrants even more chance to be amongst the prize winners.

Following the 2011-12 Premier League Season, the Fantasy Football competitions took a break for a few years, but its the summer of 2016 now and we're about to leap head first into Euro 2016 in France, and the Fantasy Football Competition is back!!

The fantasy football competition has also led to various other competitions including predictor competitions and sweepstakes for football and other sports.  You can see more details of these past competitions on the 'historical' page and of any currently running on the 'other competitions' page.
